World Book Day 2018 – Molly Moon & Hedwig, Harry Potter’s Owl

It’s World Book Day again! The girls chose their characters for 2018… It’s snowing here so luckily they are nice and cosy!

I had fun putting together a Molly Moon costume… This involved stitching an elasticated skirt from scratch and adapting a cardigan by adding black trim. I added some extra fabric to the hat and my daughter made the beads. We tried to curl her hair using a Youtube tutorial but it wasn’t very successful! Overall though, she was very happy with the result.

For the other costume we went with Hedwig the Owl from Harry Potter. In the Harry Potter books Hedwig is a female Snowy Owl (although they used male owls for the film). So I sewed this Snowy Owl onesie with detachable wings and matching Mask.

I added some real feathers for the mask and tore strips from a lovely animal effect fabric to achieve the feathered look.

I’m pleased with the result and had lots of fun creating it. Now I just need to hoover up all the fur and feathers from my sewing room!! Lots more lovely pictures below…
