Inspired by Me Made May (and in an effort to finally sew up some of the lovely summery fabrics in my stash before winter sets in!) I have been sewing more clothes… a dress to be precise!
I have had the Tilly & The Buttons Bettine Dress pattern for a while and so I thought I would have a go at this one next… I used some lovely pretty flowery fabric (Chiffon Soft Touch Sheer Fabric – Hampshire Bloom from Tia Knight Fabrics) that I bought a while ago in the sale.
It was quite tricky to sew up but I wanted to use fabric that was light weight and drapey for this dress – so it is cool for summer. I also feel that this weight of fabric looks more flattering with this style of dress.
I bought some special buttons – heart shaped Swarovski – to add to the sleeve tabs. They catch the light really well – I think they add a nice touch. I added some extra stitches around that area to help support the weight of the buttons. I love dresses with pockets in general – but chose not to add them this time as I felt the fabric wasn’t firm enough. Also, with such a busy pattern, I felt it was better to keep it simple. This dress is comfy to wear and the pattern was really clear and easy to follow – so thumbs up for Tilly once again! I think I might be making a couple more of these very soon 😉
